I’ve had several private messages asking about alternatives to eHow so I’m posting on this question. I’ve been exploring other platforms to earn residual income from content writing, so stay tuned to this blog as I intend to share what I’ve learned. Here are two places to start.
Constant Content
I’ve written several posts about Constant Content and I encourage you to consider this top notch marketplace for your written work. Be sure to read through the very helpful Constant Content forum too after you join to learn the ropes. It is a LOT different then eHow.com
Xomba
A newer platform I am exploring is Xomba.com Originally I joined Xomba to write Xomblubs that connected to my ehow articles. This strategy would build links to the eHow content. I got busy on other projects, and was becoming frustrated with eHow, so I never did many of those Xomblubs.
So I don’t have much experience yet with Xomba , but last night I put up a new article there (they call it a Xombyte) so that I could write more intelligently about the platform. I was very pleased with the flexibility Xomba provides the writer. You can write in paragraphs, points or whatever. You can build links into your article easily. I really like the easy way to add photos, resize them in the tool, and even make the photo into a clickable link. Very very cool.
Xomba has a very simple revenue sharing model – 60% of Adsense revenue goes directly to your Adsense account. Google pays you. It took me a little effort to find out how to add the Google Adsense code – and some more effort to find it again because the info is only accessible from a text link in the beginner guide – so I’ll make it easy for you. Just click here for the directions to set up Xomba with Google Adsense and here for more directions.
As far as earning passive or referral income, here is an excerpt from the Xomba Help Section:
“Xomba has an ongoing referral program that allows you to earn 10% of the revenue from any user you refer. They won’t lose out on the 10% — that will come from our side of the 50/50 split.
- You Get 10%
- Referral Gets 50%
- Xomba Gets 40%
To refer friends, simply direct them to Xomba through your referral link. This link can be found on your profile page right below your buddy list. Once on Xomba they will have to register before exiting the site. Otherwise you will not get credit for the referral. ”
So if you think Xomba might work for you, here is my Xomba.com referral link . Go make us both rich!
Xomba changed the rules in January 2011. Xomba is still a good writing site and the revenue share at 60% is pretty good, the same as Bukisa but not as good as Infobarrel at 75%-90%.
I consider writing and posting articles that earn passive income to be an investment in the future. If readers find your content attractive and useful (and in most cases the readers click on ads) you can earn money in your sleep or while doing other profitable activity.
I’ll cover other passive income writing platforms in future posts as I figure them out properly.
Here’s to your writing success,

PS: Given ehow has announced they are going to remove the US writer’s work from the ehow UK site – and given that eHow seems to randomly delete articles by accident in the best of times – it seems very prudent to do an offline back of your content. You can then post it to Xomba or Firehow or anywhere you like. Here is an eHow Guide I posted on how to back up articles easily. The same advice works great with Xomba too – just tried it today.

Sound great, thanks for the sharing.
I wrote 22 articles for ehow- had over 50,000 views and over 95% positive reviews. I was mostly writing about my expertise – circus arts, hula-hooping and fitness. Nothing offensive by any stretch. They deleted almost all of my articles and NEVER paid me th $1200+ they owed me. they email they provide as a contact for questions does not work. If you or someone you know has had trouble with eHow, let me know. I am collecting a rather long list. -Dizzy Hips
