Reuse eHow Articles

by JadeDragon on April 9, 2010

A question from an eHow refugee on the Constant Content forum lead to this quick blog post. The question was basically can you submit eHow articles to Constant Content?

As both an eHower and a Constant Content author I do not recommend moving articles from eHow over to Constant Content in eHow format.  The eHow format is too structured to sell directly elsewhere (except maybe to post on Firehow).  Rather, a little rework is in order.

Constant Content is very serious about screening out duplicate content. If you submit a previously published article to Constant Content, you can only offer the article for “usage” rights and the previously published work it must be readily identifiably as your work with the same byline as you use at Constant Content. If someone cloned your work (happens all the time) or you used social bookmarks with content excerpts you run the risk of being flagged.

Instead I’ll share a strategy that has worked for me for a long time.

First, if you are taking the article off eHow, post it with only minor changes to a site like Xomba. Now you can earn directly with Adsense and send some links to your Xomba articles.  When you repost check your keyword and go through and bold the keywords for a little extra SEO.  The Xomba format allows internal links in the text, freedom to follow a more relaxed format, and some affiliate links such as Amazon or eBay.  Take advantage of these options to earn more and create better SEO on your work.  See the link to my guide for what to do with eHow articles at the end of this post.

Than take the information you researched for the eHow and write a good new article for Constant Content. Use normal paragraphs rather than Step 1, Step 2 Tips etc. Don’t use the same words or sentences, but the step order can be the same especially considering many things should only be done in a specific order. You don’t have to worry  anymore about an actionable step for every paragraph, just write naturally.

Remember that Constant Content has high editorial standards for spelling, grammar and sentence structure. These issues have to be perfect. You also must submit in .doc or another supported file format using 12 point Times New Roman or Arial font. Check the rules before submitting or buy this inexpensive Constant Content eBook to help guide you. The Constant Content rules are clear and easy to understand and the editing is amazingly fair and consistent. The Constant Content standards are higher but the pay is worth it.  The Constant Content forums are an excellent resource for any questions.

With this approach you get an article you can sell for full rights for more than you would likely earn for the same info on eHow, plus you have the old eHow article earning Adsense for you on Xomba.

On both sites management and staff really treat the writers right because they know that without writers they have no job. From personal experience I know you will enjoy both Xomba and Constant Content. If you join through the links provided you will benefit from being referred by me.

Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.

Do you need to submit previous work to become a writer for Constant Content?

No there is not an audition process like other sites have. Instead sign up, read the guidelines and submit an article for sale. You’ll either get it accepted or sent back for revisions with a reason(s). Repeat and you are on your way. If someone submits articles far below the site standards (often ESL) they get asked to not submit anymore and the account is blocked.

Jade, if we haven’t taken our articles off ehow but still want to use them to the best benefit on Xomba, would you recommend using them to make a new article on Xomba or making a Bookmark on Xomba and link it to the ehow article directly?

You could do either one or both. It takes zero effort to leave the article up on eHow. Adding a Xomba bookmark might be just the trick to drag that article onto the front page of Google for a nice keyword.

You could also rewrite the article for Xomba and post it – saves research time. The rewrite will likely be better than the first draft and you are not constrained by the strict how to format. In the rewrite toss a nice anchored link to your eHow and your Xomba bookmark within the text. That will help everything rise. See the posts on Silver Bullion and SEO for some ideas on how to increase your position in Google.

What I adore about blogs is that they spark an idea in my brain. When that happens, I really feel as I need to comment with the hope it might be interesting to some people. Simply because there are lots of blogs and forums with many points of view, they question your comprehension. It is at these moments when you’ve valuable insignt other people may not have experienced, together with the blogger him/herself. I find myself coming back again to to your writings only simply because you’ve several really good insights and also you’ve been at this a really long time, that is very inspiring and tells me you understand your stuff. Keep triggering imagination in other people!

It’s nice to see someone putting in the effort to make decent spam. I saw this appear on my site today and checked the wording – 4 sites have got it :). Watch out if this guy starts using a content spinner!

Thanks for coming by Shawn. It is so rare to get this quality of spam I had to let it through.
