SEO & Silver Bullion #2 (Update)

by JadeDragon on April 11, 2010

Attention Visitor:  If you are looking for products from quality Silver Bullion Producers check out this resource. I want you to find what you are looking for.   However, if you are more interested in Search Engine Optimization and how I am using Silver Bullion as an example for learning SEO read on.

My first post on Silver Bullion and SEO explored how a post on this site about online business was able to rank #1 for the search term Bullion Producer but that this term was not very valuable.  Mind you, the search term Bullion Producer has been bringing in steady traffic but I’d like to increase that traffic with more popular search terms.  A little research at Google Adsense’s KeyWordToolExternal showed that around 500,000 people search the term Silver Bullion each month – but this is a highly competitive term.   I like a challenge so I’m going after it and sharing what I learn with my readers.

To see just how competitive the phrase Silver Bullion Producer is I conducted an experiment by posting a thread at the realcent.forumco.com forum entitled “Who is your favorite Silver Bullion Producer“.  Realcent forum talks about silver all the time so Google would see it as having some relevance to the topic.  16 replies later, mostly using the term Silver Bullion Producer in natural writing, we have a measurable result.

Also to start targeting the higher value keywords Silver Bullion I reworked some of my links that used the term Bullion Producer to include the phrase Silver Bullion Producer.  Here is the result:

Search String – “Bullion Producer

#1:  Realcent Thread on Silver Bullion Producers (mine)

#2:  Mining Weekly Article (not mine)

#3:  Interview with Silver Bullion Producer Market Harmony (mine, formerly #1)

#4:   SEO & Silver Bullion (mine, first installment in this series)

3 out of the top 4 is pretty good I think. Plus I now have:

#30:  Copper Cave Review at Xomba (mine, and tied into this experiment)

Search String – “Silver Bullion Producer” (No content ranking at the start of the experiment)

#1:  Realcent Thread on Silver Bullion Producers (mine)

#2:  another crawled version of Realcent Thread on Silver Bullion Producers (mine)

#3:  SEO and Silver Bullion (mine, first installment in this article series)

#4: ebullion.com article (not mine)

#5:  SEO and Silver Bullion (mine same as #3 but automatically cross posted to YouSayToo – however they deleted it for having a banner ad in it).

Off the first page I’ve also got:

#15:  Copper Cave Review at Xomba (mine, and tied into this experiment)

#17:  Interview with Silver Bullion Producer Market Harmony (mine, retitled to add the word Silver)

I’ve now proved that both these search strings not very competitive.  However Silver Bullion Producer is  it is a really good step toward the better search phrase Silver Bullion compared to the first term Bullion Producer. Further someone looking to buy Silver Bullion might search for a Silver Bullion Producer right?

Lessons so Far

Rather than tackle a really competitive search term at the beginning you can pull traffic from related but not as competitive search terms while building toward that high value keyword or phrase.

If you were writing about or selling parrots you might start with trying to rank for the Blue and Gold Macaw because that term has far less competition than the single word Parrot.  Than do articles and bookmarks about other parrots all pointing to your sales page each with different but related anchor text for the links.  Pretty soon your sales page(s) are going to rank for more and more specific related terms and eventually collectively these terms tell Google your page is an important resource for Parrots.  (Of all the birds, I choose the Blue and Gold Macaw for an example because I know the word Gold is closely related to Silver)

A side note:  I just learned that Innovative Passive Income now carries a PR2 from Google. This should boost links from here out and help pages rank in the SERPs.  I’ve already noticed a significant increase in search traffic since the PR boost.

Watch for the next installments in this series.  Any ideas or question?  Let us learn together.
