Where to Buy High Quality Content

by JadeDragon on June 23, 2010

If you need high quality unique web content, then read on to learn about two good reliable sources.

Constant Content is an online marketplace for written work.  Authors can join free and submit articles on nearly any topic.  There are many hundreds of active authors.

The site is really built around meeting the needs of customers.  Registration is very easy – just go to http://www.constant-content.com/ and select Publisher Sign-up.  Next, answer a few questions, including phone number, so that Constant Content can reach you if there is any issues.  Subscribe to any categories that interest you (easy to unsubscribe later). Hit submit and you are free to explore the site.

You will get a welcome email immediately in your inbox so check that out first.  Next look to the left side to explore articles by category.  You can also search for articles easily.  When searching, try variations on words like “trees” and “forest” and “forests” as the system sees these as different keywords.

There are three ways to buy the content you need:

1.  Buy articles from the catalog that are waiting for you.

2.  Set up a Public Request – this goes out to all authors (who are opted in) and, so long as your requested topic is reasonably general and your price is fair, you can expect to receive a number of well written error free articles to review.  These submissions are exclusive to you to view for 3 days. If you don’t like an article, just reject it.

All rejected articles and any that you don’t buy or reject within 3 days go into the general catalog for anyone (including you if you need more content) to buy. If in the remote chance you don’t like what you see, you are not obliged to purchase.

Some buyers use the Public Request system to audition authors that they go on to work with more through Private Requests.

3.  Submit a Private Request – just like a Public Request except it is directed to only one author.  Great for ongoing work with the same author.

Constant Content reviews all article submissions carefully for clarity, grammar and spelling errors.  The site also checks for plagiarism and has a zero tolerance policy for unoriginal work.

While most buyers are looking for Full Rights on articles, it is also possible to buy articles cheaper for Usage Rights. Usage Rights let you use the article but the author can sell Usage Rights to other buyers.  If you are buying for a newsletter or print publication, Usage Rights are a fine choice.

Disclosure: I actually write and sell work through Constant Content from time to time but this post is not about getting you to hire me to write for you.  I only cover topics I enjoy and know well.

oDesk is another good option for buying articles, but it is not without it’s issues. You can get workers to bid on work at oDesk and then select from among the bidders. There are many writers to pick from.  Some issues to watch out for though:

1.  Some bidders might try to just send you articles just copied off the web.  You pay for their ability to surf, copy and paste.  Worse this can result in copyright violations for you.

2.  You need to edit the article for errors – especially when using offshore providers.

If you can handle these issues, the ability to bring together a virtual team and the visibility into what they are doing is simply awesome.  oDesk has an easy to follow interface too.
